About me

Welcome!  I’m a Geographic Information Systems analyst (cartography/mapping) and a graphic designer.  I’m available for mapping projects, graphic design projects and projects that combine both.

The compact version:

I’m a GIS analyst and graphic designer living in Seattle.  I’ve been working with GIS since the early 90s.  I’m also a graphic designer.  Check out my portfolio for some examples of my recent work. If you have a graphic design project, a mapping project, or a project that combines both, send me an e-mail.  I’d love to show you what I can do for you. You can contact me at mike@mikestrongseattle.com !

A little longer version:

I’ve always loved maps.  When I was a small child, my most treasured possession was a beaten-up copy of the Rand McNally road atlas.  Even though it was missing the center spread that showed the state of New Jersey, this was book was magic to me.  Imagine my excitement when I finally received a new atlas, and I FINALLY was able to see what New Jersey looked like, from a cartographical perspective. attended Western Washington University, where I earned a degree in Regional Planning.  While working in a planning office in Whatcom County, Washington, I was introduced to the amazing ArcINFO, a Geographic Information System (GIS) that stores geographic information and produces maps.  I decided to specialize in this area, and have been working with it for almost 20 years.

While working, I became interested in graphic design, first as a way to improve the maps I produce, and then as a field itself.  While map production employs many graphic design concepts, graphic design is a much broader field.  I was able to pursue this interest by enrolling in the program at Bellevue College. I’m looking for projects both graphic design and mapping projects, including projects that combine the two fields.
